The advancement of golf balls
Golf balls
have certainly changed a lot since they were first invented.
They can now be hit a lot further than the original ones and more control
can be placed when driving the ball. Originally golf balls were made out
of leather and the insides were filled with bird feathers. Nowadays the
majority of golf balls are filled with latex which makes them fly straight
in the air.
The original golf balls were actually fairly expensive to buy as there
was a lot of things involved in putting one together. The majority of
these golf balls had to be handmade which meant the whole process was
quite a slow one. This wasn't a major problem back in the olden days as
golf was originally known as a royal sport and most people who played it
were considered to be rich and could afford the expensive equipment.
One of the major advancements was when golf balls were made to be water
resistant. This was a huge advantage as the feather filled original ones
would become quite heavy when it rained and couldn't be hit as far and
were quite un-controllable on the greens. This new advancement solved all
the problems. Later on more improvements came with the development of the
dimples that we now commonly see on all the latest golf balls. These were
invented in the early 1900's and have gone from strength to strength in
improving the game. They really add to making the balls more aerodynamic
and can fly a lot higher and further than any others.
Golf balls are now completely standard in their size and how much they
weigh. So no matter where you buy your balls from, they will always be
exactly the same size and weight. This means that if someone is driving
the ball further than you, then it is only due to their golf club and
swing and nothing to do with the ball itself. With the latest
advancements of technology, golf balls will probably continue to improve
in years to come but they have certainly come a long way from when they
used to be a big shower of feathers every time you took a swing.
